In this two-year program, students develop an attention-grabbing portfolio and gain skills in new technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality. The curriculum combines in-class lectures and studio learning sessions. Students also participate in an internship.

In addition to the core curriculum, grad students can choose from a number of specializations and free electives to tailor their path to their interests. They can focus on 3D modeling and sculpting, computer art and digital painting or animation, and may use a range of digital production tools like motion capture and video editing.

The MFA program culminates in a thesis project that students work on for two semesters. During the first semester, they take the Thesis Pre-Production course and work on their thesis research. Then they spend the final two semesters completing their Thesis with the guidance of an advisor. Graduates of the program often find positions in a variety of industries. They can also work on their own creative projects or continue to study for a doctorate in a related field.


Students are challenged to expand and refine their technical, conceptual and creative skills to produce thought-provoking art and interactivity. Through a series of high-calibre practical and theoretical units, they will learn to define, plan, and execute individual and collaborative digital art and new media research projects.

Students will also develop a thorough understanding of the critical contexts and theories surrounding contemporary digital art. The program offers a variety of courses, including Techlands and Sonic Practices, that examine intersections of technology and issues such as race, gender and ecology.

The MA in digital art will provide students with the opportunity to push the boundaries of their imagination by exploring cutting-edge technology such as 3-D modeling to create characters and environments; motion capture to bring those characters to life; and virtual reality to explore immersive art. Graduates will be able to apply these skills in a range of professional fields, including media, communications and entertainment.


A degree in digital art is an excellent choice for students who want to work in the design industry. It combines creativity with scientific understanding and technical rigor. It can be used to create innovative solutions and solve complex problems. Students can learn how to use a variety of tools, including animation software and computer programming. This can be helpful for jewelry designers or costume artists who need to model their designs on virtual models.

Students in this program will develop an individualized digital arts and design learning path with a focus on 2d-3d digital imaging and design, augmented reality, motion graphics, and the latest in immersive media. They will also learn how to apply their skills to real world projects using the most advanced technology and practices. Typically, these include laser and CNC etching, engraving, and cutting; 3-D printing and constructing; and high-end visual coding and processing. These will provide students with the necessary skills to launch their careers in many different industries.


A bachelor’s degree in digital art allows students to combine their creative vision with a deep understanding of technology. Students gain the knowledge and skills to bring their ideas to life, and can use an internship as part of their coursework.

This program emphasizes the design of interactive visual content, which can be applied to stablished disciplines, such as art history, architecture or archaeology, or emerging fields, such as data visualization or cultural analytics. The program combines theory and practice, allowing you to learn computational skills as visual thinkers and design increasingly complex interactive experiences.

You will explore 2d-3d digital imaging and computer graphics, physical computing, and virtual worlds to build your portfolio of original works of art. You’ll also develop an understanding of the social, ethical, and economic issues in the field, and be equipped to pursue your own creative research at the forefront of digital art and design. Students will also complete a thesis project.
